1. Talk about Free from the Learning Channel Matrix.
Free replaces the old term think. “Free” means free from observation. The In part of the Learning Channel Matrix classifies how a person experiences a stimulus (something in a person’s environment) for a specific behavior.
A word can serve as a stimulus (can affect a person). The Learning Channel Matrix classifies the In with the following: See, Hear, Taste, Sniff, Touch, Feel, Free
A person can see a word (the In would fall under See).
Example: See-says word from list (note I added an Out for the example; an Out represents the physical output involved with a behavior).
A person can also hear a word.

For Free, we cannot observe the In. Thinking about a word falls beyond the realm of another observing it so we use Free
Free-says word when sitting alone (this sounds like a weird pinpoint to count but the example works).
Other examples of Free:
Free-says ice cream flavor
Free-say sings song during shower
Context covers events and circumstances, or settings, that occur when someone measures a movement cycle (when we add context to “movement cycle” we call it a pinpoint).
Example of a movement cycle: Sings song (action verb + object receiving the action)
Where does Sings song occur (in a car, in a shower, at work, during that boring insurance policy presentation you had to attend at work)? By adding the context we now have a more precise target to observe and count: Sings song in the shower
3. Describe the difference between thoughts and feelings.
Humans have thoughts and feelings. No one else can directly observe another person’s thoughts and feelings. To account for behaviors that have a feeling as an In (or Input), we use the Feel channel. For thoughts we would use the Free channel. If you find yourself asking, “How do I know the person has a thought or feeling going on?" You don’t. Only the person having the behavior can know for sure (and that person could count his or her own thoughts and/or feelings). Nevertheless, having an option to account for thoughts and feelings makes for a more expansive measurement science.

5. Can people have a “Free-free" learning channel set?
Yes. If I drive to work and think about what an awesome day I have ahead of me, no one else can observe my In (it’s Free from observation). Likewise no one can observe the physical out (also Free from observation).
Why have free-free if no one can observe it? Because it can happen. Denying thoughts and feelings just because another person can’t observe them does not move a a science forward.
6. Why use “Free-write” instead of “Think-write"?
Free simply means free from observation. “Think” evokes a tendency in others to place “think” with every behavior because people think we always need to think to do things, which we don’t (and wow, could I have one more think in that previous sentence; I need to adjust the comedy settings on my robot editors).
Example of the problem:
Hear-say spells word from second grade list (good)
ThinkHear-say spells word from second grade list (not so good)
Don’t need the Thinkhear. A person can hear a spelling word and just say the letters. Saying the person has to first think about the word and then say the letters obscures the pure description function of the learning channel matrix.
7. How do we get more people using learning channels?
One idea, expand the PT community. Another idea, show people how they can better count behavior and solve problems by using learning channels.
